ENCAUSTIC TILE
This term refers to a type of tile manufactured with cement. However, since porcelain and ceramic tiles can be made to resemble it, these are often called encaustic too. Keep in mind that cement acquires a slight patina over time, whereas porcelain and ceramic don’t.

These come in endless colorways so here’s how to choose…Unless you’re going for the encaustic look, my advice is less is more. Pick a tile with less movement or fewer variations, but opt for a fun tile pattern. If you’re going with a single tone, a contrasting grout color can make a statement.
SUBWAY TILE & PENNY ROUND TILE
Whether classic subway tile is slowly becoming outdated or not just depends on how you’re having it installed. For instance, a vertical stacked subway pattern can look modern. However, you might prefer a more traditional look altogether, and that’s fine too. Similar to marble, subway tile and penny round tile are timeless options, but for a more impressive design, be bold!
